Student of the Month, November 2009: Cameron Hosack

Cameron Hosack is a senior at Lake City High School with a cumulative grade point average of 4.2. He has taken most of his school’s advanced level classes including honors, Advanced Placement, and IB courses. For his academic efforts he was selected as Idaho Top Scholar, and is a member of his school’s National Honor Society.

Cameron has been involved with the CDA Soccer Club for several years and has been a member of the LCHS varsity soccer program for the past two years, most recently being named the Varsity Defensive Most Valuable Player.

Aside from academics and sports, Cameron has spent time volunteering in the community; tutoring students at Sorenson Elementary School and teaching children to juggle at Art on the Green and in Riverfront Park. He has performed juggling at Gonzaga, Whitworth, and North Idaho College. Cameron has also been a referee at youth area soccer games.

It is Cameron’s plan to attend a four year college and pursue a degree in biological sciences with future plans to attend medical school.

Student of the Month, October 2009: Justin Stoddard

Justin StoddardJustin Stoddard is a senior at Lake City High School working toward becoming and IB diploma candidate.  Taking his school’s most advanced coursework; Justin has maintained a cumulative grade point average of 4.2 throughout high school.  Academic letter, Idaho Top Scholar, and a member of National Honor Society, attest to his academic success at Lake City High School.

Justin has played basketball at LCHS, is a member of DECA (their distributive education program), and a volunteer in their Youth Volunteers in Action program.  He has spent time volunteering at Ramsey Elementary, tutoring third graders, and also as a basketball scorekeeper.  Mowing lawns, and working with “future Timberwolves” at basketball camp have kept Justin busy working part-time and enjoying helping young children!

Justin plans on attending a four year university with plans to major in either engineering or law studies.  He hopes to complete his education at the graduate level and pursue a career in one of these areas.

Congratulations, Justin!  We know you’ll go far!!!

Student of the Month, September 2009: Stephen Shepherd

IMG_2953 copy1The Kiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene is happy to announce the September 2009 Student of the Month: Stephen Shepherd.  Stephen attends Lake City High School and maintains a 4.4 cumulative GPA while taking LCHS’s most rigorous coursework.  Stephen has been active in student government and has participated in the school’s string orchestra and jazz bands, where he received a music letter for his efforts.  A Renaissance Student, Idaho Top Scholar, and member of the National Honor Society round out some of his many academic honors.

Furthermore, he is a member of the LCHS Swim Team, Ski Club, Idaho Drug Free Youth and has helped tutor students in the Teen Aid peer tutoring program.  An active volunteer through both school and his church, Stephen earned his Eagle Scout through the Boy Scout program.

Stephen is hoping to attend Brigham Young University with plans to study Spanish and work toward a degree in either medicine or dentistry.

Student of the Month, January 2009: Nathaniel Hayden

 

02-09-nate-haydenKiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene is pleased to honor Nathanial Hayden as our January, 2009 Student of the Month.

Nathaniel, or Nate, is a senior at Lake City High School.  He is a member of National Honors Society as well as being an Idaho Top Scholar, awarded last Spring by North Idaho College.  He is, also, a International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate, planning on taking tests in May.  He is taking a full schedule with six IB classes and weights for athletics.  During his junior year, he volunteered to be a camp counselor for Trail Creek with sixth graders from Lakes Middle School and tutored kids after school at Lake City Community Church.

Nate plays Offensive Tackle for the varsity football team and throws shot put and discus for varsity track in the spring.

Nate plans to attend either the University of Idaho or Bucknell University in Pennsylvania and study either Environmental engineering or Economics.  Math has always been his favorite subject and plans on pursuing that into college and eventually a career.

Student of the Month, December 2008: Hayden Hanzen

 

12-08-hayden-hanzen1Kiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene was happy to honor Hayden Hanzen with our Student of the Month Honor for December, 2008.

Hayden is a very involved senior at Lake City High School, who manages to maintain a high GPA in advanced courses while participating in a variety of extra curricular activities: football, symphonic bank, pep band, robotics club, and others.  Hayden has made honor roll for all his high school years and has received an Academic Letter two years.  Hayden was, also, honored by North Idaho College with an “Idaho Top Scholar” award.  He is, also, a Boise State University Capital Scholar.

Hayden is planning on attending a four-year university and majoring in mechanical engineering.  He seeks to work in the aerospace industry.
